The Legal Function of a large global mining company became a contracts bottleneck and slowed down contract and procurement activities due to the large number of low-risk, low-complexity contracts they were required to develop and review. The problem began to negatively impact the company’s ability to mobilize contracts for mining projects and other important functions. As a result, the company undertook an endeavor to transfer the responsibilities of developing and reviewing these types of contracts to high-level Supply Chain personnel to increase efficiency and speed.
In partnership with a global working team consisting of supply chain, legal, and technology business partners, C-Shift Consulting supported the end-to-end planning, project management, change management, delivery, and training of a comprehensive people, process, and technology (SAP) solution to address the aforementioned challenge. The solution transferred some contract responsibilities from Legal to Supply Chain to create efficiencies and empowerment and was underpinned by an SAP module to drive the process and documentation. Implemented in 2019, this new way of working is still in place and has been expanded to other low risk contracting opportunities.
